30 Day Blog Challenge - *Day 25*

Day 25: Place I Love to Go
Whole Foods! I live for my Saturday mornings when I go to the gym and then head to Whole Foods for my weekly grocery shopping excursion. This is where the fun starts. At our WF you can get a nice glass of wine while shopping. So I grab my lovely glass of (usually) Riesling and start perusing the aisles. I take forever at the grocery store because I read all the labels and compare prices. I also like sampling things and will check out any food demonstrations going on. Then I grab some lunch or a snack at the café, take it outside to the patio (maybe with another glass of wine??) and enjoy the sun. The whole event takes like 2 hours, haha, but it is very therapeutic for me.

Most people have this misconception that Whole Foods is super expensive...a/k/a "Whole Paycheck." Let me change your mind a little about this. First off, WF has great sales. I always check the website first and see what specials they have going on that week. If shrimp are on sale (FYI, today is a 1-day sale and you can get a WHOLE pound for $5.99!), I make something with shrimp that week. If salmon is on sale, good chance we are having grilled salmon at some point. Second, WF offers great coupons. I always pick up the "Whole Deal" as soon as I walk in and scope out the coupons. Another key here, DO NOT buy something just because you have a coupon for it. I only pull out the coupons for stuff I NORMALLY buy. Third, WF does not stock nearly has much packaged food (a/k/a crap that you really don't need anyways) as other grocery stores do, which means you have less options of stuff to buy and less temptation. On another VERY important note, WF is very mindful of where their products come from. I can always ask the guy at the seafood counter where the fish came from, how they were raised, and when they were caught, and he always knows. I have inquired about the dairy farms they use to find out farming practices, and again, they always have loads of info for me. Plus I can almost always get locally grown produce. I have found that shopping at WF actually actually saves me more money than other stores. Plus I feel like I am getting better quality food and supporting a company with respectable core values.
