Kitchen Ideas

Ok all you creative and innovative readers, this interior decorating challenged person needs some help. I have been desperately trying to decorate/re-do the kitchen and cannot for the life of me figure out what to do. The problem is that it needs some slightly major updates, but we don't want to invest a ton of money in it, so I am trying to just focus on some quick fixes. How do you pick a "theme" for a kitchen? Is there even such thing as a kitchen theme? In the past we have used a lot of red accents, so rather than totally change the colors, I would like to incorporate that color. I like red too...it makes me happy. Other than my red stuff, there isn't really a particular style or theme. I am definitely ordering a kitchen table...probably this one...

I like a distressed look...stuff that you would find in an old farmhouse kitchen. I love this look...

Also, has anyone ever painted kitchen cabinets? Ideas? Anyone?? I need help. Comment or email me...thanks:)
